Who We Are
Our mission is to provide the services that people with disabilities need to live meaningful lives as members of their communities. Our vision is a community that supports personal growth, happiness, options, and opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.
In 1962, a group of visionary parents raised the money to open Memphis’ first Sheltered Occupational Shop (SOS) which eventually grew to become a $1million enterprise with 378 workers.
In 1983, SOS merged with MARC (Memphis-Shelby County Association for Retarded Children), combining residential programs, group homes and day centers. The new name SRVS (Shelby Residential & Vocational Services) pronounced “serves,” reflects the comprehensive services provided.
In 2014 SRVS merged with Special Kids & Families becoming the only organization in West Tennessee to support people with disabilities from birth to end of life. And in 2015, SRVS closed the workshop and focused on community employment and engagement.
SRVS’ long history demonstrates its commitment to continue being “the family answer for disabilities.” Our mission is to provide the services that people with disabilities need to live meaningful lives as members of their communities.
What We Do
We provide comprehensive suite of services, including residential living programs, day centers for training and skill development, community participation activities, job training and placement, children and youth services, nursing, therapy, nutrition, and behavior supports, personal assistance in the home, and a family support program.
