Who We Are
Since its founding in 1850 as an orphanage, Porter-Leath has been committed to serving at-risk children and families. Today the Agency helps more than 10,000 low-income children and families annually with innovative services and programs designed to meet their developmental, health and social needs at the earliest opportunity. Porter-Leath's network of individualized programs includes runaway homeless youth shelter, foster and adoptive care, early childhood, parent education and senior services.
What We Do
Empowering children and families to achieve a healthy, optimal and independent lifestyle. A child’s development begins in the earliest moments of life with social and cognitive skills that affect their ability to enter school and succeed. Yet children from many low-income families are often not afforded the same opportunities to develop these skills as other children. PL’s Head Start program–Head Start for preschool children ages 3 - 5 & Early Head Start (EHS) for children from birth to preschool age–ensures these children develop to the best of their ability and receive the building blocks necessary for school success. PL Head Start offers a combination of quality home-based, family services and on-site educational program free of charge.
