Who We Are
CLC provides free basic reading/writing, numeracy, High School Equivalency test preparation, and English Language Learning instruction to adults in Collierville and surrounding Mid-South area, using trained volunteer tutors.
What We Do
Collierville Literacy Council, a community non-profit agency, develops programs and trains volunteer tutors to teach adults comprehensive literacy skills in reading, writing, and critical thinking. The goal of our Adult Literacy program is to help adult learners meet their goals for improving their reading, or sometimes math, skill levels. Instruction is provided weekly by trained, volunteer tutors. Additional skill practice is available through use of computer programs and supplemental materials prescribed for the student and available at the office . Some students are also matched with a secondary tutor who helps them with the review of skills the primary tutor is teaching. This is to increase the intensity of instruction, which raises the rate of progress.
