WarHorses for Heroes is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free equine-assisted therapy for our active and retired military members. We believe in the power of healing through the help of a horse, and we’re honored to have had the opportunity to support almost 500 veterans in the past 5 years. We’re looking for dedicated volunteers who enjoy being outside and making a difference in their community as we prepare for our Fall Veteran Equine Therapy Sessions.
Group equine-assisted therapy sessions are currently held every Thursday morning and we need volunteers to work directly with our horses and veterans under the guidance of our therapists and PATH certified instructors. We need folks over the age of 16 with the ability to be sidewalkers, lift tack, and help with grooming and groundwork.
Details are always emailed to volunteers with plenty of advance notice on when we’ll need you at our barn in Olive Branch, MS. From preparation to cleaning up, sessions will require less than 2 hours of your time.
Experience with horses is not required! All volunteers receive hands-on training to learn how to safely and effectively work with the horses and veterans in a therapy setting. Procedures on how to prepare for the possibility of physically or emotionally supporting our participants will be explained.
If you’re seeking a volunteer opportunity where you can impact lives in your community, please apply today!
For questions and to sign up to volunteer, please email volunteer@wh4h.org or fill out our intake form at warhorsesforheroes.org/volunteer.
If you aren't available to volunteer Thursday mornings but would like to be put on our email list for other opportunities, email us! WarHorses for Heroes is continuously growing and adding alternative equine-assisted therapy sessions as often as we can.
