Who We Are

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® is an institution that specializes in researching and treating childhood cancers and other life-threatening diseases of childhood. Our purpose is clear: Finding cures. Saving children.® The hospital was founded in 1962 by Danny Thomas, and since then, it has helped push the overall survival rate in the United States from 20% to more than 80%.

Treatments developed at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital have helped raise the survival rate for children with cancer in the United States, where 4 out of 5 children survive cancer. In many countries, however, 1 out of 5 children who develop cancer will survive. St. Jude won’t stop until no child dies from cancer, no matter where they live.

What We Do

Because of support from generous donors, St. Jude can provide children with cutting-edge treatments not covered by insurance. There are numerous volunteer opportunities for individuals seeking to support St. Jude.

Volunteers make a difference for St. Jude families in many ways. Whether they are working in the Child Life Medical playroom with the St. Jude Happy Cart, providing event support or volunteering virtually, volunteers make a difference for children from all 50 states and around the world.
