Who We Are
The leadership of some of Memphis’ most significant healthcare and higher education institutions, as well as community leaders from the Edge District, Peabody/Vance District and Victorian Village, have launched an organization to direct the future development of the Memphis Medical District. The Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC) is responsible for a series of strategic programs to make the district, more vibrant, economically prosperous, clean, and safe.
The MMDC eight anchor institutions are: ALSAC/St. Jude, Baptist College of Health Sciences, Bioworks, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, Regional One Health, Southern College of Optometry, Southwest Tennessee Community College, University of Tennessee Health Science Center
What We Do
The MMDC’s focus is primarily focused on four key areas:
- Improving the public realm and built environment
- Coordinating safety and security
- Activating programming the District
- Facilitating community development
The MMDC also conducts a series of programs to capture and reinvest some of the institutions' economic impact into future development and programmatic initiatives. MMDC launched a series of programs – Live Local, Buy Local, and Hire Local – aimed at increasing the number of employees and students living in the District, growing local purchasing of goods and services, and connecting community residents to job opportunities at the institutions.
