Volunteer Memphis

Who We Are

Volunteer Memphis mobilizes volunteers to make a difference in their communities and builds capacity for effective service across Memphis and Shelby County. As an action initiative of Leadership Memphis, Volunteer Memphis connects individuals, families, corporate teams, and community groups with meaningful opportunities to serve more than 300 nonprofit organizations and schools. Our volunteers are at work every day of the year—tutoring and mentoring children, helping individuals and families find pathways out of poverty, and improving our local environment.

Founded in 1975 as The Volunteer Center of Memphis by the Junior League of Memphis and the National Council of Jewish Women, Volunteer Memphis has evolved through decades of community impact—becoming Volunteer Memphis in 2000 and later Volunteer Mid-South in 2009. In 2015, we joined forces with Leadership Memphis to align our 40-year legacy of volunteerism with leadership development, preparing and mobilizing leaders to work together for the good of the whole community. We are proud to be celebrating 50 years of service.

What We Do

Volunteer Memphis assists community organizations and businesses in developing successful employee engagement programs that offer meaningful, effective volunteer opportunities. We promote the power of volunteerism throughout the Mid-South and play a critical role in fostering collaboration among nonprofit, public, and business sectors—uniting ordinary citizens under the shared goal of building stronger, more connected communities.

Volunteer Memphis is proud to partner with Volunteer Tennessee, Points of Light, DOVIA (Directors of Volunteers in Agencies), and the Memphis Office of Emergency Management, expanding our reach and impact through shared commitment to service, civic engagement, and community resilience.
