The Savlation Army provides shelters and supportive services for homeless women and children; drug and alcohol rehabilitation for men, women and their children; disaster assistance; utility assistance; Angel Tree; Kroc Center.

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs without discrimination Located at the Purdue Center of Hope at 696 Jackson Ave., the Single Women's Lodge provides handicapped accessible shelter for 20 single homeless women (at a given time) who are chronically homeless due to mental illness, substance abuse and/or physical disabilities. Objectives are: (1) providing a safe temporary shelter for women living on the streets; and (2) helping homeless women work toward independent living. For many this means GED tutoring, A&D counseling, job skills training, financial literacy, employability skills and career center referrals which will ultimately lead to employment and housing. The participant and case manager develop a plan that can lead to permanent/supportive housing. Safe housing, nutritional meals and case management are provided. The Salvation Army is the only shelter that serves this population specifically and as a result, shelter for chronically homeless women unaccompanied by children continues to be a high priority need in the city. Many of these women have long term mental health issues as well as alcohol and drug abuse issues.
