Who We Are
MOSD has been part of the Mid-South community since 1959, helping deaf children learn to listen and speak through our unique oral-deaf education approach. MOSD begins serving families as soon as their child is diagnosed with hearing loss. Through classroom instruction, daily listening and speech therapy, children develop spoken language skills that help them successfully enter mainstream classes with their hearing peers and become independent, productive adults in the community.
What We Do
The mission of the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf (MOSD) is to empower deaf children to listen, learn, and talk. The Memphis Oral School for the Deaf Day School Program provides an educational setting where deaf and hard of hearing children can learn to listen and talk. In this setting, the program goal is to improve receptive (what a child understands of what he or she hears) and expressive (what a child can say) speech and language skills for each child. Individual needs are identified and measured using the Preschool Language Scale-5 (PLS - 5). Individual goals are set annually for each student. Through daily speech and language therapy, audiological therapy, and full-day academic instruction, these goals are achieved.
