Who We Are
Madonna Learning Center (MLC) founded in 1969, is the only private, independent, faith based school and vocational program for individuals with intellectual disabilities, ages 4-30+, in the Mid-South community.
What We Do
Madonna Learning Center provides a faith-based educational and social environment that empowers students with special needs to reach their full potential while offering support to their families. MLC is a private nonprofit school and prevocational training center for individuals with disabilities ages 4-30+ years, founded in 1969. Madonna Learning Center currently operates the only private independent school and training center in the Mid-South for students with intellectual disabilities such as Down syndrome, rare genetic disorders, autism, cerebral palsy and seizure disorders. We offer a therapeutic environment with a small student to teacher ratio. We serve children and adults in the Greater Memphis area including Shelby, Tipton and Fayette County. The school program offers individualized academic instruction while incorporating enrichment classes such as Orff music, visual art, physical education, creative movement, circuit training, yoga, and wood working throughout the day. Speech and Language therapy and Occupational therapy are also offered to our students. Our Adult Program (The Monarch) which consists of Life Centered Education(LCE) and Work Based Learning Classes (WBL) concentrates on daily living skills including cooking, banking, time management, self-care, job preparation, social skills and community site job training. We offer a Continuing Education Class (CEC) which is a recreational, social and continuing education program for adults who are working part-time and looking for enrichment classes. This includes yoga, physical education, cooking, shopping, community awareness, independent living skills, and other academic areas such as reading comprehension, money, and time skills.
