What We Do

Provides a comprehensive program of rehabilitation through vocational skills, independent living skills, mental health recovery and support services for adults diagnosed with mental health disorders. Lowenstein House is a mental health rehabilitation program serving adults diagnosed with mental illness. Started in 1977, it was the first program of its kind in the state of Tennessee utilizing a concept known as the “clubhouse” model of psychiatric rehabilitation. The clubhouse model asserts that everyone has something to contribute, no matter how large or small. Participants are “members”, as opposed to clients or patients. Lowenstein House provides job skills training and placement, interpersonal skills development, GED assistance, housing services, counseling, support groups and recovery oriented services. Participants receive training in one of three work units - Clerical, Food Services and Environmental. Upon completion of training, they can receive assistance with job placement and follow up services. The atmosphere is non-stressful and supportive, with each member expected to participate at a level most comfortable for them.
