The Memphis Museums of Science & History 's Education Department is hosting "TN. STEAM Festival" at the Pink Palace Museum the weeks of Oct 22-24 and 29-31. 

The TN. STEAM Festival brings science, technology, engineering, art, and math to life at events across the state!   In conjunction with the Tennessee Festival, the MoSH/ Pink Palace will be offering STEAM activities for school groups on October 22,23,24th and October 29, 30.31st.  

Students can participate in hands on steam- based activities with different community partners each day.   MoSH needs volunteers to make this the best TN. STEAM FEST in the West TN area.

Volunteers will assist community partners with tabletop activities, vendor check in, directing teachers and students around the event, staff easy hands-on science-based activities tables, help with school group lunch time rotations, and daily break down.

Volunteer dates are October 22-24 ad October 29-31 Volunteers can sign up for 8:30am-12:00 and/or 11:00am-2:30pm.

Join us for the 53rd Annual Pink Palace Crafts Fair benefitting MoSH, the Memphis Museums of Science & History. With nearly 150 artists from around the country joining us this year, the 2025 Pink Palace Crafts Fair may be our best ever. You'll find pottery, jewelry, painting, woodwork, leatherwork, sculpture, and woven goods. Enjoy craft demonstrations, live music, kid's activities, and the petting zoo.  Have you ever wondered how it all happens? Since its inception in 1850, Porter-Leath has cared for children without viable or stable families while continually broadening its scope to fill the community’s need. Porter-Leath opened its foster care and adoption program in 1986 to place children from abusive environments with parents willing to care for them in a home setting. In 1993, the doors to Sarah’s Place were opened to serve as a structured therapeutic shelter to meet the emergency needs of children.

WarHorses for Heroes is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free equine-assisted therapy for our active and retired military members.  We believe in the power of healing through the help of a horse, and we’re honored to have had the opportunity to support almost 500 veterans in the past 5 years.  We’re looking for dedicated volunteers who enjoy being outside and making a difference in their community as we prepare for our Fall Veteran Equine Therapy Sessions.

Group equine-assisted therapy sessions are currently held every Thursday morning and we need volunteers to work directly with our horses and veterans under the guidance of our therapists and PATH certified instructors.  We need folks over the age of 16 with the ability to be sidewalkers, lift tack, and help with grooming and groundwork.

Details are always emailed to volunteers with plenty of advance notice on when we’ll need you at our barn in Olive Branch, MS.  From preparation to cleaning up, sessions will require less than 2 hours of your time. 

Experience with horses is not required!  All volunteers receive hands-on training to learn how to safely and effectively work with the horses and veterans in a therapy setting.  Procedures on how to prepare for the possibility of physically or emotionally supporting our participants will be explained.

On Mondays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. we pick up food from Wal-Mart and Kroger in Olive Branch.  The driver would be responsible for picking up the food at the dock door, loading the food in to their vehicle and, bringing to the pantry.  Reliable transportation in necessary- pickup truck preferred. 

Disaster Health Services Service Associate is a temporary position assigned to work in person before, during and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season. Volunteers in this role provide assistance and healthcare to shelter residents as needed.

Flexibility to serve as much or as little as your schedule allows! Volunteer 1 - 6 blocks per day, 1 - 5 Days a Week.

Volunteer opportunities are available Monday - Friday from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM through the end of the 2021/2022 school year. Days/Times are centered around your schedule!

Volunteers are paired with a teacher at all times in a classroom setting of no more than 3 students.

Best Buddies Citizens creates one-to-one friendships between adults with and without intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) in workplaces and the community. These opportunities for friendship and inclusion are especially important to adults with IDD, who have limited opportunities to stay involved as they age. By matching volunteers with and without IDD in friendships, hosting engaging community events, and creating matches at workplaces, the Best Buddies Citizens program strives to create an inclusive and diverse community for all.

We all have seen the tremendous strain our healthcare professionals and first responders have been under as they continue to respond to the global COVID-19 pandemic.  Your gift of a meal at a local precinct, fire house, or hospital is an easy way to show that you care.  Choose to purchase the meal from a locally owned restaurant and you will be doubling your impact by supporting local business owners who also need our support during these unprecedented times.

Here is what you should do.

1.  Select a local precinct, fire house or hospital in your area. 

2.  Once selected, contact them and let them know what you would like to do.  Be sure to ask them how many meals to prepare.

3.  Let them know when you plan to arrive and include a thank you note or a note of encouragement to let the first responders know how much their work means to you.

Ushers fulfill a variety of duties before the show, at intermission, and after the show.  Duties may include:

The usher schedule is very flexible.  You may volunteer for any performance on the schedule for which ushers are still needed.  In general, days and times are Thu-Sat 6:30-10:30 PM and Sun 1:00-5:00 PM.  You can volunteer several times on one show or choose different shows.  Ushers are given a brief orientation every time they volunteer.  As a bonus, anytime there are open seats in the house, ushers are invited to watch the show for free. Registered volunteers can sign-up to usher at any time for any show that has an open sign-up.

STREETS Pathways Mentoring Program pairs our middle and high school scholars with caring adult mentors. Mentors and mentees attend Grizzlies games together, eat at local restaurants, visit local attractions, go to movies, and so much more! We wish to encourage our youth to reach their God-given potential and find their purpose by building meaningful and long-lasting relationships. Requirements for mentors:

STREETS is committed to responding to our community’s needs, especially during these unique times. In response to Shelby County Schools’ decision to operate fully virtually, STREETS will serve as a Virtual Learning Hub for students to access technology/Wi-Fi, in-person adult support, and meals during the school day. Volunteers can sign up to work a 3-hour shift, Monday-Thursday, from 7:30am-3:30pm. Hope House's mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals affected by HIV and poverty. Located in the heart of midtown, three historic homes act as a safe haven to over 600 individuals (adults and children) affected by HIV. Adults come for social services including individual and group therapy, case management, a housing program. a food pantry and much more. Children are welcomed into our daycare services at 6 weeks and stay until they graduate preschool at 5 years old. 

Our project will be to clean and weed the flowerbeds in front and back of all three houses. It is crucial for us to keep our properties in top shape, not only for inspection purposes but also so that they remain a safe and welcoming environment for our children and adults. As a small staff, it is difficult for us to find the time and resources to tackle this project. Because of COVID-19, we are not allowing volunteers inside of our building. Each group will need to bring their own materials including water. We would love for you to join us and help us clean up our gardens! With your help, we can keep making Hope House look like home!

Become A Birthday Hero - Birthday Heroes help the children in our residential programs celebrate their special day while they are in our care. Heroes can schedule to have a “Birthday Snack Pack” delivered to the campus for a group to enjoy in their cottage or courtyard. A “Birthday Snack Pack” should include a snack (pizza, wings, sub sandwiches, etc.), beverage and dessert for a group of 12-14 youth. Birthday Heroes also have the option of sponsoring a birthday celebration for a cottage or courtyard, with a gift of $75.

Disaster Health Services Supervisor is a temporary position assigned to work in person before, during and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season.

The purpose of this role is to lead a team of Disaster Health Services responders to provide health services care to shelter clients. This role will act as the liaison from the Disaster Health Services team to the shelter manager. Advocacy for client needs is a primary purpose of this role.

The Shelter Service Associate is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Shelter Service Associates complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and provide assistance for disaster clients. Shelter Service Associates support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, or other areas within a shelter.

The Shelter Supervisor is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Shelter Supervisors supervise a team of assigned workers to successfully complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and aid disaster clients. Shelter Supervisors guide and support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, or other areas within a shelter.

You don't have to wander far from home to make a difference and beatify your community.  Consider having a clean-up or beautification project in your own neighborhood.  Grab some gloves and a garbage bag and set out on a walk-about picking up the rubbish you find.  When you get back home, take a picture of yourself with what you've gathered and post it on Facebook.  Make sure you tag Memphis City Beautiful and United Way of Mid-South and we will share your photos on our page.

Fayette Cares is looking for social media-savvy people to help us spread the word about our mission to serve individuals experiencing domestic violence. Your network of friends, family and co-workers could help us connect with new supporters who are interested in supporting our work.  Social Media Ambassadors are social media professionals, technology enthusiasts, networked individuals, and/or social media users who utilize their online communities to help promote Fayette Cares and to promote our mission to empower those in need with solutions to end homelessness, break the cycle of domestic violence, and create stability and self-sufficiency from crisis.

Marketing Volunteer

Fayette Cares is looking for a marketing volunteer to help us raise awareness of our cause and fundraise for our operations.  This internship will develop your marketing skills while you gain experience with the unique challenges of a nonprofit organization.  As a marketing intern, you will collaborate with our marketing and administrative teams. You will be expected to check in regularly with leaders and team members.  Your contribution will help broaden our efforts and expand our audience.  

WarHorses for Heroes is looking for fundraising volunteers to help us find and develop corporate relationships and sponsorships. This internship will develop your networking and sales skills while you gain experience with the unique challenges of a nonprofit organization.  As an intern, you will collaborate with our fundraising and administrative teams. You will be expected check in regularly with leaders and team members.  Your contribution will help generate much needed revenue to cover the costs associated with providing equine therapy to veterans.

WarHorses for Heroes is dedicated to the rehabilitation of our ill and injured veterans through equine therapy.  Our mission is to provide hands-on support through our veteran-led equestrian program to our active and retired military members who have sustained service-related mental and physical injuries.

Our veterans have given so much to this country, and they deserve our support when they are

in need. The transition from military to civilian life is challenging for many veterans, and the

high rates of physical disability, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and depression in our

veteran population further burdens their progress. In fact, it has been reported that an average of 1 in 4 veterans show signs of mental illness, and as many as 20 veterans a day commit suicide.  WarHorses for Heroes is battling these bleak statistics by partnering our veterans with the healing power of horses.

Responsibilities:

This is a 6 month assignment, with an expectation of approximately 15 hours per week of work

LITE equips African-American & Latinx students with 21st-century skills to create wealth. Virtual mentors are a part of our volunteer dream team. Dream team members provide written feedback to students on their partner emails, scholarship essays, business canvases/plans, executive summaries, and marketing plans. The volunteer commitment is only six weeks (mid-August to mid-October). Dream Team members typically spend 30min. to an hour a week (on their own time) providing feedback on students' documents. This form of mentoring is virtual and done exclusively through email.

Our mentors are a vital part of LITE's success. Since our program produces finalists every semester, we are always looking for more mentors to serve!

DeNeuville Learning Center provides on site childcare for students during High School Equivalency Test Prep and English as a Second Language classes, allowing students who would not otherwise be able to obtain or afford childcare to attend classes.Childcare volunteers are responsible for the supervision of children in the nursery while students are in class.

We are seeking volunteers to assist in the operations of the Nancy Fletcher Food Pantry at Friends For Life.  The NFFP is open Monday through Friday from 9-3, during which time we see clients living with HIV/AIDS and provide them with nutritious and delicious food items including fresh produce, dry goods, and meat.  They also receive hygiene and toiletry products as part of the distribution.
