Disaster Health Services Service Associate is a temporary position assigned to work in person before, during and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season. Volunteers in this role provide assistance and healthcare to shelter residents as needed.

Provide hands on care for shelter clients to include but not limited to assistance with activities of daily living, wound care, incontinence care, assistance with functional needs. Provide health education, health assessments and determination if a higher level of care is needed. Assist clients to replace medications, durable medical equipment or consumable medical supplies. Advocate for client needs with Disaster Health Services supervisor. Support maternal and child needs as necessary. Complete required virtual self-paced training required for the position

Disaster Health Services Supervisor is a temporary position assigned to work in person before, during and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season.

The purpose of this role is to lead a team of Disaster Health Services responders to provide health services care to shelter clients. This role will act as the liaison from the Disaster Health Services team to the shelter manager. Advocacy for client needs is a primary purpose of this role.

Lead team of licensed healthcare professionals Act as liaison for DHS team with shelter manager Assist DHS service associates with documentation and data gathering (including C-MIST interview). Communicate access and functional needs of clients to shelter manager Provide hands on care as necessary, including assistance with activities of daily living, wound care, incontinence care, health assessments, health education, and determination that a higher level of care is needed for client Observation and health screening for COVID-19 like illness for all shelter clients daily Lead the management of an isolation care area. Complete required virtual self-paced training for position (8 hours total)

The Shelter Service Associate is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Shelter Service Associates complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and provide assistance for disaster clients. Shelter Service Associates support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, or other areas within a shelter.

Following worker safety procedures for working in a COVID environment Embodying the fundamental principles of the American Red Cross in their work with clients, disaster responders and partners Providing excellent client service and support the daily maintenance of the shelter operation at the direction of the assigned Shelter Supervisor Using the Shift Tool during the disaster event to report availability and schedule shelter shifts Completing the required virtual self-paced training (3 hours of training total)

The Shelter Supervisor is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Shelter Supervisors supervise a team of assigned workers to successfully complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and aid disaster clients. Shelter Supervisors guide and support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, or other areas within a shelter.

Following, implementing and monitoring worker safety procedures for working in a COVID environment Embodying and sharing the fundamental principles of the American Red Cross in their work with clients, disaster responders and partners Providing clear expectations, feedback and coaching to team members in the provision of excellent client service and support the daily maintenance of the shelter operation at the direction of the assigned Shelter Manager Using the Shift Tool during the disaster event to report availability and schedule shelter shifts Completing the required virtual self-paced training (9 hours of training total)

Leadership

May determine if Red Cross action is required; may decide if Red Cross will respond via DAT. Uses event triggers such as size, scope, and type of the event to direct the DAT response. Works with on-scene DAT leadership to support the response and provide technical guidance. Support and trains new Duty Officers.

Functional

Dispatch DAT members and monitor the response to ensure appropriate resources are made available. Activate Disaster Health Services, Disaster Mental Health, and Disaster Spiritual Care, Public Affairs when requested. Documents incoming disaster notification and creates & verifies events in RC View, when applicable. Where appropriate, maintains access to and ability to use the Client Assistance System (CAS) to enter case data and load CACs. May be required to monitor activity across multiple DAT responses. Notify Chapter and Regional staff of significant events, and contribute to an Initial Incident Report, when appropriate. Attends regularly scheduled team/DAT meetings as required by Chapter/Region.
