Who We Are
Established in July 1930 to spearhead a Riverfront Revitalization Project, Memphis City Beautiful (MCB) is the first and oldest beautification commission in the nation. For over 87 years, City Beautiful has worked to make Memphis a clean and healthy place to live. MCB is a small City of Memphis agency in the Dept. of Neighborhood Improvement/Division of Public Works. We focus on providing public education programs and other services designed to encourage all members of our community to take responsibility for improving the environment in which they live. This is directly reflected in our mission statement: Memphis City Beautiful… working together for a clean, green beautiful Memphis. Memphis City Beautiful is the local affiliate of both Keep Tennessee Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful. Friends of City Beautiful, Inc. is the non-profit auxiliary support organization for Memphis City Beautiful incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)3 in 1978 and is charged with securing funds necessary for fulfillment of designated programs.
