Who We Are
Memphis APRI works to strengthen the ties between the labor movement and community.
By boosting the political impact of black voters, and increasing black participation in labor’s base of support we have become a leading voice.
What We Do
Black voters play a key role in the political strategy of our alliance. To increase black voter participation, ARPI sponsors voter education, and Get-Out-The-Vote programs.
As a APRI member, you can play a crucial role in supporting the labor movement’s educational and organizing campaigns, strikes, boycotts and grassroots lobbying efforts. To assist our political and labor support activities, we cultivate alliances with civic, religious, civil rights, youth and community groups.
How do we go about building an economically just and racially equal society?
We seek structural changes though the American democratic process. From courthouse to state house to the White House, APRI members actively promote social, economic, labor, political and legislative issues. Going into the 21st century, APRI is on the front lines up support of:
• Civil rights, strong anti-discrimination measures, affirmative action, and workplace diversity
• Policies to promote a decent wage, high growth, full employment economy
• Labor law reform and worker health and safety protections
• Decent minimum living standard for all, including anti-poverty programs, a fair minimum wage and comprehensive “safety net”
• Universal, affordable health care
• Family leave, child care, and fair trade
• Progressive and fair tax policies
• International workers’ rights and fair trade
• Education of the community on mainstream issues
• Labor leadership training and education
