Who We Are
Since 1946, Girls Inc. of Memphis has been inspiring all girls to be strong (healthy), smart (educated) and bold (independent), providing 1,000 girls annually with life-changing experiences and solutions to the unique challenges girls face.
What We Do
Girls Inc. of Memphis serves girls ages 6 to 18 through in- school, after-school and summer programs. Our evidence-based curricula successfully empower girls to embrace healthy living, graduate from school on time and pursue post-secondary education in STEM-related fields. We serve girls in 32 zip codes within Shelby County, with a strategic focus in neighborhoods where girls with the greatest needs have easy access. We have two Girls Inc. of Memphis centers in North and South Memphis (Lucille Devore Tucker, 38107) and South Memphis, (South Park Center, 38111). We also provide in-school programming in Frayser (38127) and South City (38122), and as well as a 9-acre Youth Farm in Frayser. Our Eureka! STEM programming is centrally based in our Girls Inc. Administration Offices within MIFA (38126) but also utilizes satellite locations for projects in and around the city. The Girls Inc. Experience consists of people, an environment, and programming that, together, empower girls to succeed. Trained staff and volunteers build lasting, mentoring relationships in girls-only spaces that are physically and emotionally safe and where girls find a sisterhood of support with shared drive, mutual respect, and high expectations. Hands-on, research-based programs provide girls with the skills and knowledge to set goals, overcome obstacles, and improve academic performance.
