Who We Are

United Way of the Mid-South is the region's largest public charitable foundation. Our mission is to improve the lives of Mid-Southerners by mobilizing and aligning community resources to address priority issues, with a focus on poverty. We serve the greater Memphis area, which includes Crittenden County in Arkansas; Tate and Tunica counties in Mississippi; and Fayette, Lauderdale, Shelby, and Tipton counties in Tennessee.

What We Do

United Way of the Mid-South serves the community through aligned grantmaking to high-performing nonprofits. The top priority for this United Way is addressing Mid-South poverty by aligning our funding, initiatives, partnerships, and programs in ways that help more people advance out of poverty.

We believe that no one organization can deliver solutions single-handedly. As a convener, United Way creates collaborative solutions that have a long-term impact on the lives of individuals and families across the community. We achieve this through our Community Impact grantmaking, Free Tax Prep program that supports low-income families’ financial stability, and the innovative network of Driving The Dream™.

Driving The Dream™ is United Way of the Mid-South’s innovative human service delivery network that creates equitable access to resources and support for people to achieve financial and social mobility. With a “no wrong door” approach, families can connect to multiple resources with a single call to the  Driving The Dream™ Call Center. This coordinated network of effective community-based services “helps people move from where they are to where they dream to be.”
