The Independence Volunteer Fire Department shall preserve and protect life and property from and during fires and other emergency situations.
In the past we have had to call on other departments to assist us with determining if there was a gas or carbon monoxide problem at a residence or business. With this new equipment Independence Fire Department will be able to handle the situation without tying up additional resources. Due to the cost of residential detectors, Independence Fire Department has been unable to give out free detectors in the past. This would allow us the ability to help ensure that our local residents have at least one working detector. Fire safety education and prevention needs to go beyond the classroom. We would like to be able to offer free demonstrations and materials to our children, as well as, the elderly and the low income residents. Life safety doesn't stop with just fire education. We are now responsible for responding to all types of life emergencies. Helping our citizens live longer, more healthy, lives is a goal we plan to achieve.
