Who We Are

BBBSMS is the oldest, largest and most effective mentoring agency in the United States. BBBSMS has facilitated one-to-one mentoring for Memphis' youth for nearly 50 years. We offer a number of programs that match strong role models with children who need someone in their lives to make a difference between a future bright with hope or filled with despair.

What We Do

To provide Mid-South children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. V.I.S.I.O.N.S. (Volunteers In Service In Our Neighborhood Schools), is a site-based mentoring program offered by BBBSMS. The overall goal of this program is to provide at risk youth with one-to-one support and friendship with responsible adults. Objectives for this program include enhancement of academic performance, reduction of truancy, reduction of dropouts and increased socio-emotional competence. Matches interact with each other at the elementary schools. Mentors are recruited from nearby high schools, businesses, colleges/or universities. Adults and high school volunteers are screened and matched with children, ages 5 to 12, and meet with them for an hour once a week. Bigs and Littles engage in recreational and educational activities, as well as schoolwork. The Bigs work with teachers to determine the needs of the child. The BBBSMS staff communicates regularly with the Bigs and Littles and the school to ensure the health of the match and to track objectives.
